VIJAYAWADA: A 35-year-old auto driver was arrested by Bhavanipuram police on Sunday for allegedly molesting a minor girl. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Kranthi Rana Tata said the 7-year-old girl is a class 3 student, living along with her grandparents. The accused Yesu, a neighbour in the past and a family friend, often visited their house.
The auto driver made a visit to the house on Saturday evening at the time of which he found the girl alone. He lured the girl with chocolates and committed the crime.
On hearing the girl scream, her grandmother rushed to the spot and found Yesu sexually assaulting the girl. She called the neighbours for help. “Locals caught Yesu who tried to flee. They later handed him over to Bhavanipuram police,” said DCP Kranthi Rana.
A case has been registered under section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of IPC and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
