VIJAYAWADA: Admitting that the works of Polavaram are getting delayed due to dearth of funds with the contractor, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said that though the government is taking every initiative to complete the works at the earliest, they are yet to pick up momentum.

“We are doing our best and releasing the funds in time for the contractor. But, the funds are not reaching the ground level (sub-contractors and workers),’’ he said.

Speaking to mediapersons at his residence in Undavalli near here on Monday, the Chief Minister  said that the bifurcation blues will loom large over the State for some more time and that the State government is putting all efforts to ensure welfare and development programmes continue to overcome all the hurdles.

“With the motto to achieve 80 per cent public satisfaction, we are implementing several schemes and are now on the process of reaching out the masses through ‘Intintiki TDP’ programme,” said the Chief Minister and added that the programme is going down well among the people, thereby boosting the morale of the party cadres.

“We are on a mission to cover all the 1.39 crore families in the State through the programme. We have covered 60 lakh families so far. All the grievances submitted by the public during the drive will be resolved. Our aim is to win all the 175 Assembly constituencies in the next election,” he said.

Stating Telugu Desam Party’s victory is a must to fast-track the administration and to continue all the ongoing projects without interruption, Naidu exuded confidence that people will give their mandate to his party.

Refuting the allegations of YSR Congress president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy that the Telugu Desam is neglecting the welfare of backward classes, Naidu said that it was the late Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy who ignored the BCs as he was well aware that the BCs are the backbone of TDP.

Centre promises all help
Assuring to release funds in time for the early completion of Polavaram project, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said that the NABARD will release the necessary funds to the State for the project
Interacting with mediapersons in New Delhi, Gadkari asserted that the Centre is committed to extending assistance to Polavaram project. “We will release 75 per cent of funds within 3 days after the State submits the bills. The remaining 25 per cent will be released after an inspection by a team from the Centre,” he said.

Opposing the proposal being mooted by the State government to change the contractor of the Polavaram project, Gadkari said that such development will lead to the escalation of project estimates
