VIJAYAWADA: HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao and DGP N Sambasiva Rao said stringent action would be taken against the colleges found violating the norms and regulations set by the Board of Intermediate Education - AP (BIEAP) on college timings and study hours.

Addressing a press conference on Monday, the DGP said the frequent incidents of Intermediate students committing suicide are denting the image of the State at the national level and mentioned that reasons behind the suicides will be examined at the ground level. “We have taken the issue seriously and will conduct a thorough probe into the death of students,” he said.

With more than seven cases reported in a span of two weeks, Additional Director General (Intelligence) has submitted a report to the DGP on the reasons behind the suicides. Sambasiva Rao also said that they are planning to bring student policing system in all the colleges across AP to reduce incidents of suicides.

Srinivasa Rao said that police will adopt 1,000 private colleges and develop them into model ones. “It’s time to turn colleges into model colleges. Each police station in the State should take care of at least one college,” the HRD Minister said.
