VIJAYAWADA: Taking cue from the spurt in revenue during Dasara, APSRTC has been planning to replicate the same by operating special services for Diwali. Most of the services will operate to Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam on October 17 and 18.

According to APSRTC officials, the exorbitant ticket rates of private buses and the paucity of railway tickets are the reasons behind the windfall for RTC. This festive season, the corporation will be operating around 150 special services from various bus depots in the State to provide hassle free journey to the passengers.

‘’As many as 49 special services will be operated from Vijayawada to various destinations. During Dasara, there was a big rush to Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam. Employees will be doing their normal duties. Additional drivers would be deployed as per demand to prevent accidents during the festive season,” said a senior RTC official on condition of anonymity.

Dasara is one of the revenue generating seasons for the APSRTC. The special services operated from September 24 to September 30 generated a handsome revenue for the corporation. As many as 400 special services were operated from various depots in the State and it garnered a revenue of `20 crore. Last season, the collection stood at `17.29 crore.The RTC official added that this Dasara, they had an excess collection of `2.71 crore compared to the previous year.Each day, there was an average collection of `2 crore.
