HRD Minister Ganta Srinivas Rao has said that stern action will be taken against those students who are indulging in ragging or any kind of anti-social activities in the educational institutions.

VIJAYAWADA: HRD Minister Ganta Srinivas Rao has said that stern action will be taken against those students who are indulging in ragging or any kind of anti-social activities in the educational institutions.
He said this on Tuesday after meeting the students who were thrashed by their seniors on IIIT Nuzvid campus.  All the 54 accused senior students were suspended on Monday. Later, the minister held a meeting with the the institute Director, Vice-Chancellor and Commissioner of Technical Education.

Addressing the gathering, Ganta Srinivas Rao said, “We started IIIT Nuzvid campus in 2008 to benefit rural students from backward classes. Over 8,400 students are studying at the campus where nearly 56 per cent are girl students. The recent ragging at IIIT Nuzvid is unfortunate. Soon, we will hold an executive committee meeting and discuss the recommendations of the committee regarding the suspension of students and take a decision.  We don’t want to make colleges as ragging hubs. We have decided to curb ragging after the Rishiteshwari incident. We wanted the students receive quality education with moral values. We would take severe action against those students who engage in anti-social activities.”

“We will discuss the suspension of the students in the executive committe meeting. Based on the discussions, we will decide whether to take further action or revoke the suspension,” the minister said.
Fifty-four students of IIIT Nuzvid in Krishna district were suspended for thrashing their juniors on the campus on Monday. The vice-chancellor and director of the institute constituted a committee to inquire into the incident.
