VIJAYAWADA: In a first, the robotic animals show from Tuesday at a handloom exhibition in the city is sure to sweep people of their feet. The month-long Handloom Handicraft Fun Fair expo, being organised at Swaraj Maidan, is going to be a main source of recreation for young kids this summer.

The concept for the robotic animal show was mooted after the government banned performances by wild animals at Gemini circus, which ran successfully for the last six decades, the exhibition organiser M Raja Reddy said, adding the primary attraction of the expo would be a ‘man-made jungle’.

“Due to the banning of the performances of wild animals, many workers, whose livelihood depended on the circus, lost their source of income,” the organiser said, adding that a similar expo in Visakhapatnam a year ago that evoked good response motivated him to hold the event in Vijayawada.

The robotic animals were procured from Italy and China at an estimated cost of `2 crore. One of the scariest attractions here would be a 35-feet long Amazonian anaconda lurking out of a tree. A giant elephant, lion and 15-feet long ape are going to entertain the visitors.

The visit would be an educational experience for many as details such as animals’ habitat and their biological names would be mentioned.  Another major attraction would be ‘snow world’, which is developed to give respite to the denizens from the sweltering heat. All in all, 38 amusement rides and a number of stalls displaying a variety of handloom and handicraft products would feature here.
