VIJAYAWADA: A day after a farmer committed suicide by consuming pesticide in the Collectorate at Machilipatnam alleging that revenue officials failed to act on his complaint during the weekly grievance redressal programme ‘Mee Kosam’ on Monday, joint collector II P Babu Rao initiated a departmental inquiry, under the guidance of Gudivada RDO GV Satyaveni.

Addressing the media on Tuesday, Babu Rao said the deceased farmer, Chunduru Sivarama Varaprasad (52), hailed from West Godavari district. He had 1.37 acres of agriculture land in Peyyeru village of Mudinepalli mandal.

During his meeting with the Joint Collector, Varaprasad complained that four persons identified as Adusimilli Satish Chowdary, Adusumilli Venkat Rao, Adusumilli Rajakumari and Chinthapalli Krishna Kishore wanted to convert his agriculture land into residential plot in collusion with some revenue officials, without his consent. After filing the complaint, he committed suicide by consuming pesticide in front of the officials.

Babu Rao also found fault with the staff of the District Collectorate for not rushing him to the hospital immediately.“Our staff and other people remained as mute spectators instead of helping him out. Memos will be issued to the government staff concerned,” the JC-II said. The JC-II also said the Gudivada RDO will conduct a detailed inquiry and submit the report in a week.“After the departmental inquiry, criminal cases will be filed against the officials,” the JC said.
