56th Home Guards Raising Day: Vijayawada police commissioner praises their work

VIJAYAWADA: The 56th Home Guards Raising Day was observed at Armed Reserved Grounds in the city on Thursday. City Police Commissioner Dwaraka Tirumala Rao received the guard of honour from home guards. 

Addressing the gathering, Rao praised the work done by the 1,050 home guards from across 15 different departments in the city. Apart from performing their duties as cops, the Home Guards have also extended their services to the public during emergency situations like floods, fire accidents and spread of epidemics. Later, the CP also distributed awards to them for their performance in sports activities.

DCP (Crime) B Rajakumari, DCP-1 (Law and Order) Gajarao Bhupal and other officials also participated in the event.

‘Home Guards equivalent to police’
IG of South Coastal Zone, Guntur Range, KKV Gopala Rao appreciated the drill the Home Guards conducted during the 56th Home Guard Raising Day celebrations at Police Parade Grounds in Guntur on Thursday. “Home Guards are equivalent to police officers,” said IG KKV Gopala Rao.
