VIJAYAWADA: Minority Welfare Minister NMB Farooq has written a letter to Central Haj Committee CEO MA Khan urging him to extend the Haj application date to December 31 from December 12.

Following the appeals made by several Muslims to extend the date for Haj applications during the Ijtema celebrations held in Kurnool, the minister on Tuesday took the issue to the notice of Central Haj Committee.

In his letter, the minister mentioned that despite there is a provision for nearly 3,000 Muslims to go on Haj pilgrimage from the State as per the size of population, only 1,539 have applied so far due to the delay in getting passports.
