VIJAYAWADA:  To provide a platform to the electorate to approach the Election Commission with regard to election-related grievances, including missing of their names from the voter list, the Election Commission has come up with a call centre with toll-free number 1950. The call centre will be inaugurated in Vijayawada on December 17.

The Election Commission had come under severe criticism from various quarters as lakhs of names were found missing from the electoral rolls in the Telangana Assembly elections. After drawing flak from the electorate who could not exercise their franchise in the just concluded Assembly elections as their names were not found in the voter list, the CEO of Telangana had apologised to the voters who were denied their voting right.

AP Chief Electoral Officer RP Sisodia has taken several initiatives to make the electoral rolls in the State foolproof and ensure that all eligible voters exercise their franchise in the elections. Apart from taking up a week-long exercise to rectify the errors in the voter list, the CEO has got a new mobile number 9491111091 exclusively meant to obtain feedback from the general public on electoral rolls. People have been urged to send  SMS or WhatsApp messages to 9491111091 for redressal of their grievances if any pertaining to the electoral rolls revision and any other election related issues.

When contacted by TNIE, CEO Sisodia said people can make a call to the toll-free number 1950 pertaining to the election-related grievances. The electorate can also check out whether their names are included in the voter list or not and in case of missing names, they can get their grievances redressed.  The staff manning the call centre will work in two shifts from 8 am to 8 pm (each shift 6 hours) till the next general elections. If the workload is more, the call centre staff will be increased, the CEO added.
