Vijayawada: Jewellery shop employee foils robbers’ bid to snatch bag with Rs 31.57 lakh

According to reports, the robbers barged into the general compartment of the Ahmedabad-Chennai Navjeevan Express at Tenali station, snatched away hand bags from two women.

GUNTUR: An employee of a jewellery shop in Vijayawada, fought off six robbers and did not let go off his bag containing Rs 31.57 lakh cash in the Navjeevan Express, at Tenali railway station on Monday morning.

According to reports, the robbers barged into the general compartment of the Ahmedabad-Chennai Navjeevan Express at Tenali station, snatched away hand bags from two women passengers and made a similar attempt to grab the cash bag from Vemula Venkatesh, the jewellery shop employee. But, Venkatesh strongly resisted the robbers and foiled their attempt by tightly holding the bag. Soon a railway constable, M Srinivasa Rao, arrived upon hearing the shouts for help from Venkatesh. Seeing the constable, the assailants fled, carrying the two bags they had taken from the women.

DSP L Ajay Prasad said Venkatesh in his statement to police claimed to be an employee of JR Jewellers in Vijayawada and was going to Chennai to purchase the jewellery. The police registered a case and launched an inquiry into the incident.
