Riverfront, greenery development in capital region planned

Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) has roped in WAPCOS, which has already given a presentation and is working on a project report, to firm up plan.

VIJAYAWADA: To chalk out plans for riverfront development in the capital region, the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) has roped in WAPCOS (earlier called Water and Power Consultancy Services Limited). A plan of 2.5-km-long canal bund development near Rayapudi is also mooted as part of the project.

Officials said that WAPCOS had already given a presentation last week and that detailed report on the project was being readied. “Once the detailed project report (DPR) is prepared, we will get the approval from Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and call for the tenders,” a senior official said.Further, as a part of greenery development in the capital region, the Amaravati Development Corporation Ltd (ADCL) has also begun the works related to landscaping along the Seed Access road.According to information, a 15-metre space, called buffer zone, is there on both the sides of the Seed Access road where greenery will be developed.

“The concept designs have already been conceived. While landscaping has already begun, we will soon begin plantation of various exotic trees,” the officials explained. The officials said that the 15 metre buffer zone will be there all along the 21-km length of the six-lane Seed Access road. The 15-metre buffer zone will not just have greenery, but will also have recreational zones.

“There will be a two-metre-wide pathway for the people to walk on. Along that path, we will develop shrubbery, open-air gyms, children’s play zones and other such facilities,” an architect from ADCL observed.

The types of trees to be planted are also being identified. “Trees will be planted in a row with the type of tree changing every two kms. Each set (of two kms) is a combination of two different varieties of trees. The cost of the entire project will be calculated once all the details of the plans are freezed,” the official said.
