A dispute over a delay in payment of hostel fee sparked a clash between engineering students and a hostel warden in Penamaluru on the city suburbs on Thursday evening.

VIJAYAWADA: A dispute over the delay in payment of hostel fee sparked a clash between engineering students and a hostel warden in Penamaluru on the city suburbs on Thursday evening. Two students were injured in the incident. Furious students also attacked the media representatives who went for coverage and damaged a camera.

According to Penamaluru police, the clash occurred between hostel warden Srilatha and third year engineering student Surya Vamsi happened late on Wednesday night over payment of Rs 1,400 hostel fee. The issue took an ugly turn around 4 pm on Thursday when the media representatives went to question the hostel warden over the issue. She along with her husband Sai Prasad and six other persons attacked Surya Vamsi, a reporter and a cameraman.

Tension prevailed for a while near Penamaluru police station limits, when the duo took to streets and engaged in jostling among themselves. The furious students attacked the hostel staff with sticks and pelted stones at them. Public got panicked and remained mute spectators witnessing the fight from their houses. A case has been registered based on the complaint filed by the media representatives and investigation is on.
