FMs to hold talks ahead of GST Council meet

Finance Ministers of several States, who have already organised two rounds of meetings, are set to meet again in New Delhi on July 20 to discuss the issues to be raised during the GST Council meeting

VIJAYAWADA: Finance Ministers of several States, who have already organised two rounds of meetings, are set to meet again in New Delhi on July 20 to discuss the issues to be raised during the GST Council meeting to be held on July 21. During a meeting with the officials of the Finance and Commercial Tax Department at his residence here on Monday, Finance Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu said that ministers from like-minded States would take part in the July 20 meeting.

Stating that the Centre has failed in proper implementation of GST and is taking unilateral decisions, Yanamala said the voting system in GST Council was against the spirit of cooperative federalism. He sought constitutional amendment, if needed, for bringing changes in the voting system.

Stating that the States will lose their rights once petrol, natural gas and real estate are brought under the ambit of GST, he demanded that the Centre compensate the States which are losing revenue due to GST from the Central revenues instead of cess.

He also demanded that the Centre reduce existing GST slabs to avoid burden on the common man.
