Shelter for 3 lakh, house warming fest tomorrow

VIJAYAWADA: After organising house warming festival for one lakh houses in October 2017, the State government is all set to organise the second phase of the festival, an initiative to provide shelter to 3 lakh families in the State, in a big way on July 5.

Terming the event “historic”, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu wanted the officials to complete the construction of the remaining eight lakh houses by January 2019. Naidu will inaugurate the second phase of housewarming programme at Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium in Vijayawada on July 5.
“So far, we have constructed over 5.80 lakh houses and we will reach the target of providing houses to all families by 2022,’’ Naidu said on Tuesday.

Alleging that the promise of providing 14 lakh houses remained on paper during the 10 years rule of the previous government, the Chief Minister instructed the officials to make a constituency-wise analysis so as to bust housing scams and punish the culprits.

Housing Minister Kalava Srinivasulu conducted a review meeting with project directors of AP Housing Corporation Limited over the arrangements of the house warming programme. He said the house warming programme would be organised in 12,767 gram panchayats and 2,093 municipal wards covering 664 mandals and 110 municipalities in the State.

Srinivasulu said the Chief Minister set the target of completing 10 lakh houses by 2019.
He said that the State government has been maintaining transparency in housing projects by introducing cashless transactions. He said the amount is being credited to the accounts of the beneficiaries. He said people’s’ participation is more in the housing scheme.

The minister asked the officials to involve beneficiaries and public representatives in a large number in the house warming festival. He said the State government has liberalised several rules to make the housing scheme people-friendly and provide additional financial assistance to the beneficiaries.
