Youth commits suicide, records selfie video

The victim is suspected to have decided to end his life as his wife lodged a complaint against him in police station

VIJAYAWADA: In a shocking incident, a youth committed suicide by jumping in front of a moving train near Vijayawada railway station allegedly due to family disputes after recording a selfie video explaining the reasons behind his extreme step. Though the incident happened on Monday evening, the incident came to light on Tuesday morning when railway officials found the body lying on tracks.

According to Government Railway Police (GRP) officials, the deceased was identified as Movva Guruva Reddy (27), a resident of Krishna Lanka. Upon checking his pockets, the GRP officials recovered his identity cards and a mobile phone. In the mobile phone, Guruva Reddy recorded a selfie video explaining his reason for committing suicide.

In the video, Guruva Reddy addressed his wife Gayathri (25) and sought an apology from his father Venkat Ramana for not taking care of them. He further blamed his wife for taking the extreme step of ending his life in middle and held Gayatri and her parents responsible for his suicide. “You cheated me and made me sit in the police station intentionally by filing false cases. You, your parents and brother are responsible for my death. Sorry daddy. I could not bear the depression. Please take care of yourself,” said Guruva Reddy in the video.

When contacted, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Kanche Srinivas told that Guruva Reddy and Gayathri were in a relationship since Class X and married five years ago with the consent of their parents. While Guruva Reddy dropped his education after tenth, Gayathri completed her engineering. It is said that he helped in educating Gayathri to complete her Engineering course and, she even got a job at a private company in Hyderabad as a software professional.

When she went to Hyderabad for the job, Guruva Reddy grew suspicious of Gayathri’s sudden behaviour and installed a paid mobile application named ‘Spyhuman’ and tracked all her messages and phone calls. He observed that Gayathri was moving closely with another man and confronted him saying that he has all the evidence of her affair with him. “When Gayathri came to Vijayawada on June 26, he again confronted her. Depressed with it, she and her family members attempted suicide by consuming sleeping pills and were admitted to Andhra Hospital on June 27. They (Gayathri’s family members) further lodged a harassment complaint against Guruva Reddy at Krishna Lanka police station for which police summoned him for a casual interrogation,” said Srinivas.

“He might have taken the hasty decision when his wife lodged a complaint against him,” the ACP added. The GRP police took cognizance of selfie video and registered a suicide case against the incident.
