Protests mar NEET counselling

VIJAYAWADA: The first phase of counselling for NEET UG State quota ended on Thursday, filling the seats in B category and C category for MBBS and BDS.

As many as 712 seats for B category were filled on Thursday. The counselling for filling 343 C category seats began late on Thursday evening.

Meanwhile, many students and parents staged protest against the NTR Health University authorities in front of the campus alleging that they are not informing them about the counselling process, seat allotment and their availability.

On Thursday, the B category seat allotments were completed at all-India rank 1,56,753 and State merit rank 1,388. In fact, the University authorities have called the students from 1,001 to 3,800 ranks for the counselling.  The remaining aspirants staged protests along with their parents for calling them for counselling without availability of seats.  The university officers told them that they can participate in the counselling for C- Category seats.

Speaking to TNIE, S Appala Naidu, Registrar at NTR University of Health Sciences, said, “As today is the last day for the first phase of counselling, there was protests which take place every year. The seat allotment took place for both MBBS and BDS seats in B category. The C category counselling is open and will be finished today (Thursday) itself.” Meanwhile, a team of YSRCP leaders staged protest in front of NTR Health University alleging irregularities in the counselling process.

A team lead by former minister Parthasaradhi and former MLAs Malladi Vishnu, Vellampalli Srinivas and the student leaders met Vice-Chancellor CV Rao and urged him to allot the vacant reserved seats to the candidates in the same category like the previous allotments. They alleged that BC candidates are losing several seats due to lapses in the counselling process. The V-C said the process was stopped with the orders of the court.
