AP Capital Region Development Authority identifies land for convention centre
VIJAYAWADA: The AP Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) has set the ball rolling for the construction of a mega convention centre in Amaravati. Once the developer is identified, the proposed facility, which will be built with an estimated cost of Rs 25 crore, is expected to be constructed in a year.
The CRDA officials said that five acres of land has been identified for the convention centre in the capital region. “We have zeroed in on two locations along the Seed Access Road near Lingayapalem village tentatively. We will finalise the location shortly. We have set a time frame of 12 months for the construction of the facility. If all goes as per the plan, we should be able to finalise the contractor by August,” a senior official involved in the project told TNIE.
Once the convention centre is ready, it will be used to host State government meetings besides private trade shows, fairs and other such programmes. It may be recalled that the State government has been renting out private convention centres in Vijayawada, Guntur and Mangalagiri to host national and international events.
The official said the process of identifying the developer has begun. “We have issued a Request For Proposal (RFP) inviting national and international firms to submit their proposals to develop the convention centre under Design- Build- Finance- Operate - Transfer (DBFOT) model. The convention centre would have all modern facilities including a facility to interpret about six languages. The officials explained that a huge multipurpose hall with removable partitions will be built to accommodate at least 2,000 people at once.
“Besides the hall, there will be another banquet hall with a capacity to accommodate around 1,000 members. There will also be meeting rooms and other facilities that normal convention centres have,” another official from the Capital City Development Project wing.
