Damodar Gautam Sawang takes charge as director general of Andhra Pradesh vigilance and enforcement

The State government, on July 7, issued an order transferring Sawang as DG of V&E and ex officio principal secretary to the government.

VIJAYAWADA: Former city police commissioner Damodar Gautam Sawang took charge as director general (DG) of state vigilance and enforcement (V&E) from in-charge DG AR Anuradha at Dr NTR Administrative Block here on Wednesday.

The State government, on July 7, issued an order transferring Sawang as DG of V&E and ex officio principal secretary to the government.

Earlier, it was believed that the 1986 batch IPS officer would be sent to ACB after the post fell vacant following RP Thakur’s appointment as director general of police (DGP) on June 30. The State government posted Sawang at the Vigilance department, which did not have a full-time director general after the state bifurcation.

After taking charge as DG, Sawang interacted with the staff and district superintendents in his chamber. He added that the V&E department could bring irregularities made in some projects to light and asked for officials’ support.
