VIJAYAWADA: Swaraj Maidan rythu bazaar will be sporting a new look soon as the district officials want to equip it with better parking facility, along with complete concrete flooring.

During recent rains, the rythu bazaar turned into a muddy lane, which made the officials decide to go for complete concrete flooring with better parking and a rainwater harvesting pit. Presently, only the front portion of the market has concrete floors. The rear part of it, where vegetables are sold, are covered with mud. Apart from proper flooring, the parking area will also get a facelift with several platforms and modern infrastructure provisions.

Officials are also mulling to give the stalls in the market a new look with digital boards and electronic sales. For dumping waste, each stall will be provided with a bin. Number of central dumper bins in the market area will also be increased to six from existing three bins.

“We are experiencing difficulty during rainy season as there is not proper shelter and drainage facilities. Sanitation in the market area is quite poor. By noon, all the three dumper bins get filled, and waste is being littered outside causing mess.

It will be a great help if officials work on increasing facilities in the market,” said V Ramana, a vendor at Swaraj Maidan rythu bazaar.  Speaking to Express, district Collector B Lakshmikantham said: “Recently, we held a meeting with marketing officials in order to develop the market as a model rythu bazaar. Soon, the officials will come out with a set of new initiatives, which will be implemented to increase sales. As of now, basic infrastructure amenities are being fixed.”
