VIJAYAWADA: The cyclonic circulation now lies over north coastal Odisha and neighbourhood between 3.1 km and 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards. A low-pressure area is very likely to form over north Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood during the next 48 hours. In a release by Real Time Governance, it is informed that there would be strong waves on July 13 and 14, with two-four metres wave height.

Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services and Indian Ocean Forecast System (INDOFOS) issued High Wind Alert, stating that strong surface winds from westerly direction speed reaching 45-50 kmph were likely along and off coastal Andhra Pradesh for the next few days. Due to the presence of active monsoon, North coastal region will receive moderate rains with heavy winds for the next 3-4 days.

Through the IMD INSAT 3D satellite imageries and DWR observations, broken low/medium clouds with embedded moderate to intense movement was observed at isolated places over North Coastal Andhra Pradesh. Weak to moderate activity was observed at isolated places over Rayalaseema. Due to this, light to moderate rain is likely to occur at isolated places in the Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East Godavari, West Godavari, Krishna, Guntur, Nellore, Chittoor, Kadapa and Anantapur districts for the next 24 hours. However, the rain may become intense due to convergent activity. Very light to light rains may occur at isolated places in Prakasam and Kurnool districts.

Speaking to TNIE, K Naga Ratna, weather forecasting officer, IMD, said, “For the next 24 hours there will be moderate to heavy rains ranging from 5-10 cm of rainfall in the north coastal regions. In 13 to 15 days, there are chances of the low pressure in North Bay of Bengal moving southwards, and resulting in cyclonic conditions. Due to this, heavy winds with a speed ranging from 50 kmph to 85 kmph would take place in the coastal region.”

The sea would be rough and fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea. Further there would be strong surface winds from westerly direction with speed reaching 45-50 kmph likely along and off Coastal Andhra  Pradesh. According to IMD, heavy rain is very likely to occur at isolated places in Visakhapatnam, East and West Godavari districts of North Coastal AP in the next 24 hours.
