Andhra Pradesh Warehousing Corporation to set up storage facilities

Andhra Pradesh State Warehousing Corporation (APSWC) has initiated measures to have its own warehouses with a total capacity of four lakh metric tonnes in the current fiscal.

VIJAYAWADA: Andhra Pradesh State Warehousing Corporation (APSWC) has initiated measures to have its own warehouses with a total capacity of four lakh metric tonnes in the current fiscal.

Disclosing this at the 194th Board of Directors meeting of the Corporation on Monday, APSWC Chairman LVSRK Prasad said that this year till date, measures were taken for the storage of a total of 13 lakh metric tonnes of food grains.

“On the directions of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, we are making efforts to have our own warehouses and initiated measures in that direction,” he said. By December this year, chilli and turmeric processing and cold storage units with a capacity of 13,000 metric tonnes will be brought into operation at Spices Park in Edlapadu of Guntur district, he said.

The Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for a cold storage unit in spices park on May 8. The board meeting resolved to construct its warehouses with a total capacity of 1.15 lakh metric tonnes with its own funds to meet the growing demand for food grain storage. It thanked the Chief Minister for allocating land for the proposed warehouses.

APSWC MD KV Ramana, Directors NT Chowdary, BLN Mani Sankar Naidu, Metla Venkataramana, G Nageswara Rao, D Rajavardhan Reddy, Samuel Praveen Kumar and NK Grover attended the board meeting.
