Tirumala Rao appointed Vijayawada city police chief

In a major reshuffle of IPS officers, the State government on Tuesday appointed new Commissioners of Police for Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam.

VIJAYAWADA: In a major reshuffle of IPS officers, the State government on Tuesday appointed new Commissioners of Police for Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam. The government transferred as many as nine IPS officers and filled the vacancies for some key posts.

The government appointed 1989-batch IPS officer Ch Dwaraka Tirumala Rao as the Commissioner of Police, Vijayawada City. The post fell vacant after senior IPS officer Gautam Sawang was transferred as the Director General of Vigilance and Enforcement department. 1998-batch IPS officer Mahesh Chandra Laddha was posted as the Commissioner of Police, Visakhapatnam, in place of T Yoganand.

On expected lines, the Additional Director General of Police (DGP), Crime Investigation Department, Ch Dwaraka Tirumala was transferred and posted as Commissioner of Police, Vijayawada City.

Tirumala Rao served in CID for four years and dealt with some important cases such as AgriGold and money circulation scams during his tenure. 

He played a crucial role in attaching properties of AgriGold group and arrested 18 of the 26 accused named in the charge-sheet.

The government also replaced Yoganand, the CP of Visakhapatnam city, with IGP, Intelligence Mahesh Chandra Laddha.

Laddha was earlier appointed as in-charge of special investigation team (SIT) constituted to investigate the sensational M-Hotel Liquor tragedy in 2015.

Meanwhile, Yoganand was transferred and posted as Additional Commissioner of Police, Vijayawada city.
The other notable transfer was of Joint City Police Commissioner (JCP-II) of Visakhapatnam city, T Ravi Kumar Murthy, who was transferred and posted as Eluru range Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in the existing vacancy.
