VIJAYAWADA: Five days after the parents of Movva Guruva Reddy, who ended his life by jumping in front of a moving train on July 3, staged protest in the city demanding justice for their son, Krishna Lanka police have arrested the deceased’s wife--Gayathri, her parents and brother on charges of abetment to suicide. The arrestees were produced in court on Saturday. All the four accused--wife Gayathri, brother Sudhir, and parents Anuradha and Kameswara Rao--were sent on judicial remand till August 2.
After a complaint was lodged in the Railway police station on July 3, following the death of Guruva Reddy--who recorded a selfie video explaining the reasons for his suicide--a case under section 306 (abetment of suicide) was registered against the incident and it was transferred to the Krishna Lanka Police Station.
Claiming the police have failed to arrest the accused responsible for their son’s death, Guruva Reddy’s parents expressed their doubts on the investigation into the case and staged a protest in front of Krishna Lanka Police Station demanding action against Gayathri and her family members for compelling their son to commit suicide.
The police had arrested Guruva Reddy on July 1 after his wife, Gayathri, and her family lodged a complaint against him accusing him of harassment, Reddy was upset and held his wife and her parents responsible for his suicide in the video. “With the Krishna Lanka police detaining my son after his wife lodged a false harassment complaint, he was depressed and committed suicide. Prior to taking him into custody, police should have conducted a detailed inquiry. It is evident that police supported them (Gayathri and her parents),” deceased Guruva Reddy’ family rued.
