VIJAYAWADA: The Cabinet meeting held under the Chairmanship of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu at the Interim Government Complex in Velagapudi on Tuesday gave approval for setting up electronic manufacturing cluster-II at Vikruthamala village near Tirupati in Chittoor district. The cluster, coming up on 322 acres of land, will bring in an investment of `2,827 crore and generate around 52,930 jobs.

The Cabinet also gave permission to the Information Technology, Electronics and Communications department to utilise `30.27 crore allocated to it in the budget for creating external infrastructure.
For the first time in a decade, the Cabinet gave permission to private polytechnic college managements to hike fee from the existing `15,500 to `25,000.

Disclosing the details to reporters, Information and Public Relations Minister Kalava Srinivasulu said the government had taken the decision after the managements expressed their inability to run colleges without increasing fees. The minister was quick to add that the decision would not put burden on students as around 85 per cent of them are eligible for fee reimbursement from the government.
Similarly, the annual fee for D Pharmacy was hiked from the existing `17,000 to `25,000.

Bhogapuram airport

The minister said that a decision was taken to give `33 lakh compensation per acre in Gudepuvalasa village, where 27.80 acres of land was  acquired for Bhogapuram airport. Additional compensation will be given for trees in the said lands, he added.

The Cabinet also approved the proposal for development of greenfield international airport at Bhogapuram in Vizianagaram district under PPP mode. The airport will come up on 2,730  acres of land. The Cabinet also approved the proposal for the construction of an International Convention Centre on 14.15 acres of land on Harbour Park Road-RK Beach Road in Visakhapatnam on PPP mode.

Stating that the government was committed to construction of 19 lakh houses for the poor by January, 2019, he said `500 crore was allotted to acquire lands for the purpose.

The Cabinet approved the proposal of AP Towers Pvt. Ltd for formation of a joint venture with M/s Pace Power Systems Pvt. Ltd., M/s Lineage Power Pvt. Ltd to develop communication infrastructure in the State. The Cabinet also approved the proposal of appointing AP Towers Pvt. Ltd as a nodal agency to oversee the infrastructure development in communications sector in government lands by establishing a single window system for all the proposals and renewals. An amount of `2,000 crore will be allotted for the purpose.

AgriGold panel
The Chief Minister, while reviewing the AgriGold case, directed the formation of an official-level committee and instructed the Chief Secretary to review the progress of the case once in a fortnight.
