VIJAYAWADA: The Ministry of Railways has allocated ` 20 crore for the fiscal year 2018-19 to execute various development works in the Vijayawada Division of South Central Railway (SCR) station premises.
According to the officials, the Vijayawada division had sent a proposal for Rs. 32 crore to execute development activities to the Railway Board a few months ago.
As part of the activities, the officials have decided to construct a new foot-over bridge connecting platform number 1 with 10. The existing foot-over-bridge connecting platform number 1 and 6 was constructed four decades ago. Proposal to install escalators in all ten platforms of the station at an estimated cost of ` 18 crore to avoid inconvenience for the passengers is also under consideration.
