SCR GM urged to develop Tirupati station

The plans include construction of an eight-storeyed new railway station building with all modern facilities.

VIJAYAWADA:  Former YSRC MP Vara Prasad Rao met South Central Railway (SCR) General Manager Vinod Kumar Yadav at Rail Nilayam, Secunderabad on Thursday and appealed to him to evolve necessary steps for modernisation of Tirupati Railway Station at an estimated cost of `491 crore. 
The plans include construction of an eight-storeyed new railway station building with all modern facilities. These include a hotel block, multiplex, railway station plaza, food courts, exclusive departure concourse, drop off zone, waiting lounges etc.

Construction of a subway at Rayalacheruvu (Level Crossing Gate No. 104) in Tirupati also figured in the meeting. The need for taking up the work for this subway which is the crucial connecting link between south and north of Tirupati at the earliest is also stressed. The former MP also requested the GM for prioritising completion of core rail development works in and around Tirupati. Responding to the pleas made by the former MP, Vinod Kumar Yadav said that consent from the State government is awaited. Undertaking works for subways to eliminate four more existing level crossings in Tirupati was also discussed.
