TS ‘bonam’ for Durga temple 

The annual ritual of offering ‘bonam’ (a tradition in Telangana) to Goddess Kanaka Durga atop Indrakeeladri will be ‘special’ this year.

VIJAYAWADA:  The annual ritual of offering ‘bonam’ (a tradition in Telangana) to Goddess Kanaka Durga atop Indrakeeladri will be ‘special’ this year.The Sri Mahankali Bonalu Jathara Utsavalu Ummadi Devalayala Uregimpu Committee, which has been offering ‘bonam’ to the deity every year for a decade now, will make the traditional offering in a golden vessel with a prayer that Andhra Pradesh will be accorded special category status (SCS).

State politics has been revolving around the issue with the ruling TDP and Opposition YSR Congress resorting to a game of one-upmanship demanding the same and the Centre refusing to budge from its position citing recommendations of the 14th Finance Commission. Even ruling TRS and other parties in Telangana backed AP’s bid for special categroy.Around 300 devotees from Hyderabad will offer ‘bonam’ and ‘pattu vastralu’ (silk robes) to Goddess Kanaka Durga on Friday.
