VIJAYAWADA: With an objective to cater to the needs of fitness enthusiasts expected to move to Amaravati, the AP Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) has decided to set up a ‘temporary fitness centre’ with modern facilities in the capital region. The cost of the fitness centre is estimated at `1.5 crore.

While the name suggests that the centre would be a temporary one, the CRDA officials clarified that the centre would have only some structures which are temporary. “The centre, a permanent one, will be developed in a phased manner. Some of the structures there would be temporary as they will be modified as and when required. In the first phase, we will spend close to Rs 1.5 crore for setting up all amenities present in modern fitness centres,” a senior official from the infrastructure wing of the authority said.

The fitness centre is expected to come up near the central business district, also known as the start-up area, to serve the visitors of the capital as well. The official added that a tender was floated last week to identify the developer. “We have issued a notice inviting tenders from interested bidders. We plan to open the bids in the first half of July. Once the developer is on board, the project will be developed in six months,” the official said.

Meanwhile, the Amaravati Development Corporation Ltd has planned to procure close to 20,000 unique plants, and use them for creating green spaces in the capital region. The officials are in the process of identifying a supplier for the same.

“There is a need for over 19,800 unique plants and trees to be planted in various locations initially. We have finalised the varieties of the plants required, and their quantities,” an official from the urban development wing said. Once the per unit rate of the plant is fixed, the ADCL will procure them within six months.
