Vijayawada division gets its first all-women railway station

Ramavarappadu railway station has become the first railway station, out of the 161 railway stations in the Vijayawada Division, to be run by an all-women team, from Saturday.

VIJAYAWADA: Ramavarappadu railway station has become the first railway station, out of the 161 railway stations in the Vijayawada Division, to be run by an all-women team, from Saturday. At present, the women staff in the station comprise of one station superintendent, three station masters, two points women and three women Railway Protection Force (RPF) constables, in the security wing. 

For record, as a step towards empowering women in the Railways and to boost their morale and self confidence, South Central Railway, in keeping with the decision taken by the Railway Board, had taken the initiative to make Ramavarappadu railway station in Vijayawada Division, an all- women station, sometime ago, by deploying women staff to handle all the day-to-day activities, including train operations, ticketing, security and other relevant duties. 

During the course of inspection of the station on Saturday, R Dhananjayulu, divisional railway manager, congratulated the staff members for rendering their duties with full dedication and commitment. M Sailaja, station superintendent, Jolly Mandal, K. Sunitha, P Alekhya, all station masters, A Pravallika, K Vijaya Kumari, both point women, - all from Operating  Department, and Chinni, a RPF constable started the proceedings at the station on Saturday.G Sumana, ADRM (operations), P Chaitanya, senior DOM, N Varaprasad, senior DEE/M, Varun Babu, DEN/East, JVRK Rajasekhar, in-charge PRO and other officers and staff were present on the occasion.
