Gudivada couple murder case: Two rowdy-sheeters held in Chennai

VIJAYAWADA: Gudivada police made a breakthrough in the sensational murder of an elderly couple on Saturday with the arrest of two persons in Chennai. Krishna district Superintendent of Police (SP) Sarvashreshth Tripathi produced the accused before the media at Machilipatnam on Thursday.

Speaking on the occasion, Tripathi said that one of the accused, Jillela Suresh, a rowdy-sheeter from Gudivada. planned the robbery with the help of Selvadurai alias Shiva, a criminal from Chennai. After conducting recce of the town for three days, they zeroed in on the house of Boppana Saibabu Chowdhary, a businessman and owner of a rice mill.

The two criminals entered the businessman’s house at around 10 pm by cutting the window grill with a gas cutter. They ransacked the house before stealing gold and silver items, cash, TV and other valuables. The assailants then mercilessly killed the old couple by attacking them with knives. They fled in Saibabu’s Toyota Etios parked outside his house.

“After examining the CCTV footage, we came to conclusion that the killers escaped to Chennai in the car belonging to Saibabu. The accused stayed at Perambadur in Chennai after committing the crime,” Sarvashreshth Tripathi said.

A special police team was formed to investigate the murder and to nab the criminals. The police initially questioned the relatives of the victims and their employees. After ruling out their involvement, they turned their focus on old criminals.

With the available clues, the police arrested Suresh and Selvadurai and produced them in the Perambadur court. After formalities, Gudivada inspector D V Ramana and his team brought the alleged killers and produced them in the Gudivada court, the SP added.
