VIJAYAWADA: A 22-year-old youth was arrested for allegedly trying to beat up and rape a girl in her residence, as she refused to accept his love proposal. The shocking incident took place at SC Colony of Gurajada village in Pamidimukkala mandal on Friday afternoon, when the girl’s parents were out of the house on work.
According to Pamarru police, the accused youth was identified as Moorala Veerababu, an auto driver by profession.
Police said that he lived in the girl’s neighbourhood and used to harass her in the name of love. Despite the girl’s father’s issuing a stern warning to not disturb the girl, Veerababu allegedly tried to force the girl to accept his love proposal by repeatedly sending her lewd messages and calling her up.
Knowing that the girl was alone, Veerababu barged into her home and attempted to sexually assault her.
Upon hearing the girl’s screams, locals rushed to the spot and caught Veerababu. “Angry over the refusal of his love, the youth had entered her home and tried to rape her. But, as the girl managed to get support from the locals, Veerababu was caught and beaten up,” said the police.
Following the complaint lodged by the girl’s father, police recorded the statement of the girl and sent her to the Pamarru local area hospital for a medical examination. Veerababu was later taken into custody and a case was registered against him.
