VIJAYAWADA: Krishna Lanka police arrested a man on Saturday for killing a 30-year-old woman on March 18.  The accused, Thotamali Pratap Kumar ( 32), had an affair with the woman and tried to mislead the police claiming that she committed suicide.   The deceased woman, Jakkamuri Nagamani alias Sobha, was a friend of Pratap’s wife and developed an illicit relationship with the accused six months ago. Pratap is a steel trader from Mylavaram town of Krishna district.According to  Additional DCP - Law & Order II (in-charge) Shaik Nawab Jaani, Sobha was married to one Ramu since 2009 and settled in Palvancha of Telangana state with her husband. The couple had two children.

After Ramu’s death due to ill health, Sobha admitted her two children in a hostel in Kottagudem and used to visit Thotamali Nagarani’s (wife of the accused) house in Mylavaram. Pratap over time developed an illicit relation with Sobha and rented a house with her at Metla Bazar under Krishna Lanka police station limits. As Pratap was irritated when Sobha started pestering him to divorce his wife and marry her, he killed her by hanging her to a ceiling on March 18 in her residence, the police said.

“After killing Sobha, Pratap went to Mylavaram and told his wife about the incident. With the help of call data and statements from neighbours, Pratap is believed to be the killer and was arrested on Saturday,”  Shaik Nawab Jaani said. Nawab Jaani appreciated South zone ACP Kanche Srinivas and Krishna Lanka circle inspector Chandrasekhar for solving the mysterious death case.
