Direct road from Guntur to Amaravati soon

VIJAYAWADA: With an objective to provide road connectivity to Amaravati from Guntur, Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) and Roads and Buildings (R and B) department have decided to widen the road between Tadikonda and Thullur. A detailed project report (DPR) for the proposed project will be readied and execution of the same will begin soon, the officials said.

According to information, the existing road will be extended till the E9 Road which is being developed in the capital region. “Guntur District Collector Kona Sasidhar proposed having a direct access to Amaravati from Guntur. He proposed that the existing Gorantla Road, which is a State Highway, towards the capital, be extended till the E9 Road. As it doesn’t need land acquisition, it would not burden the State exchequer,” a senior official explained.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, during the Collectors Conference held last month, agreed to the proposal and directed officials concerned to immediately work on it. About 25 km of the road would be widened into a four-lane one. “We will work with the R and B department to take the project forward,” the APCRDA official added. The road extension will help the commuters from Guntur, who travel to the capital via Mangalagiri now, to directly reach Amaravati, the official observed.

The officials said that the availability of a direct access between the capital will give an impetus to Guntur’s development. The APCRDA and R and B are also working on the development of other roads leading to the capital in Guntur district. “A blue print has already been prepared. The works will be taken up in a phased manner,” another official said.
