VIJAYAWADA: Fortune Murali Park hotel welcomed the upcoming Christmas season by organising a ceremonial cake mixing festival on Friday.The owners of the hotel said that the occasion was a joyous one as the religious event was celebrated with such frolick in a society which was made of people of various beliefs and practices.
The history of the cake mixing festival was discussed during the event. The festival dates back to the 17th century, when agrarian families used to prepare plum cake as a tradition after the harvest of nuts and fruits. After the cake batter was mixed, it was preserved until the next year with the belief that the next harvest would be equally bountiful. The families used to sit together and savour the cake along with wine or rum.
