VIJAYAWADA: The Krishna district education department officials are preparing to conduct the first summative assessment examination from November 15.

From this year onwards, the officials concerned brought back the old descriptive mode of examination rather than the objective mode. However, there arises a question on the security initiatives taken by the officials to avoid question paper leakage, which happened the previous year.

In 2017, the question paper of SA-1 was leaked following which the examinations were cancelled. To overcome that the education department introduced the objective pattern where each candidate will be receiving Optical Mark Recognition sheet on their name and they have to round off the correct answers.
Even in this pattern, the officials faced a lot of difficulties; some of the reasons included the names of candidates were found missing, unable to evaluate among others.
Finally the officials concerned went back to the old pattern, but the significant question is the security of the question papers.

Over 59,000 students in the district are going to take summative assessment examination this year. The question papers have reached the district centres and are stored in strong rooms. From there they will be sent mandal offices and from there to various schools. School principals have been made responsibile to carry the question papers to the exam centre daily, accompanied by invigilators or police.

The school principals and managements are urging the officials to bring the question papers under police protection  and bring them directly to schools. “Earlier each district conducted its own examination. Now with process having been centralised, the chances of question paper leak is also increasing. At least, the officials should provide more security and take more precautions to avoid the paper leakage,” AP Unaided Schools Managements’ Association (APUSMA) president A Krishna Reddy said.
