VIJAYAWADA: Security lapses at the King George Hospital gave both the patients and the staff at the hospital a rude shock, as the sweepers of the hospital while cleaning the floors stumbled on three men, who did not either belong to ‘patient party’ or were members of the KGH staff, lying unconscious near the orthopaedic ward of the hospital in the early hours of Monday. One of the three was already dead.

According to KGH sources, all the three had consumed alcohol and surgical spirit and came to KGH around 9 pm (on Sunday) and slept at the ward. While two were identified as Shankar and Ramana of Achyutapuram, the deceased allegedly had no connection with these two.

While the gates of the hospital remained open 24/7 for the patients to come and go, the security did not ask about the identity of any of the three, who slept near the ward, thinking they might be attendants of the patients.

As per the details given by KGH superintendent Arjuna, the three persons, including the deceased, neither belonged to any department nor were outsourcing employees. But one among the three was a regular visitor to the KGH, who ate meals being provided by Akshsya Patra Foundation in the hospital.

“They probably came early in the morning and slept on the floor. When the sweeper was cleaning the floors and the security tried to wake them up, one among them was found to be dead. The three are said to be chronic alcoholic,” Arjuna told TNIE.
