VIJAYAWADA: Vuyyuru Police on Thursday booked a man under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, on charges of attempting to rape a 13-year-old girl at her house in Gandigunta village in Krishna district.
When contacted, Pamidimukkala Sub-inspector G Srinivas said the incident took place on Wednesday afternoon when the minor girl was alone at home after her parents left for work. The accused, T Srinivasa Rao (35), is the girl’s neighbour and a lorry driver. Taking advantage of the situation, the miscreant entered the girl’s house and tried to sexually assault her. However, the girl managed to escape and she informed her parents about the incident when they returned home.
Based on a complaint lodged by the girl’s parents, the accused was booked under the POCSO Act and sent to judicial remand. The girl was sent to government hospital for medical test and her health condition is stable, Srinivas added.
