VIJAYAWADA: A 19-year-old engineering girl student allegedly attempted suicide by consuming bleaching powder on Tuesday morning after she was ‘cheated’ by a bike mechanic. The victim was immediately shifted to the government hospital for treatment.
According to Nunna police inspector Durga Rao, the victim was identified as P Suneetha and was pursuing B Tech in a local college. She was residing with her parents in a rented house under Nunna Police Station limits.
The incident happened around 9 am on Tuesday when her parents were away. After the parents reached home, they noticed Suneetha lying unconscious and shifted her to the government hospital.The police, who received information about the incident, recorded the statement of the victim. In her statement, Suneetha told police that she was sexually exploited by a bike mechanic Gurram Praveen (28).
“When Suneetha came to know that Praveen was married, she confronted him for cheating her. Upset with Praveen’s betrayal, she took the decision to end her life,” the police said. Based on the complaint, police registered a case of rape and cheating against the bike mechanic and took him into custody.

Guntur: A student committed suicide by hanging herself to a ceiling fan at her residence in Devapuram here on Tuesday. The deceased was identified as M Mary Rani (17), a second-year B Pharmacy student. According to sources, though the girl wanted to stay with her parents, her father David admitted her in the college hostel. The police shifted the girl’s body to Guntur Government Hospital for postmortem.
