VIJAYAWADA: Tenders for the iconic Legislative Assembly proposed in Amaravati will be invited next week, Municipal Administration minister and vice-chairperson of Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) P Narayana has said. He said that the iconic structure would be ready in two years.

Speaking to media persons after Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu reviewed the APCRDA projects on Thursday, the minister said the Legislative Assembly will be 250 metres tall.

“There will be two galleries—one at 80 metres height and the other at 250 metres—in the Assembly from where the visitors can view the entire capital city. While 300 members can be accommodated in the gallery at 80 metres, the one on the top can have 25 people at once. The Assembly hall will be a three-floor structure,” he elaborated. The Assembly will have lifts for the visitors to reach the galleries, the minister added.

The representatives from Foster + Partners, who are designing the structure, apprised Naidu of its features. “The design of the Assembly, which is an inverted lily, was presented to the CM, who suggested a few changes. The final designs will be presented next week and we will call the tenders on November 30,” Narayana added.

The minister added that the works related to Justice City, where the Judicial Complex is being built, were going on at a brisk pace. “We have already launched the works of Judicial Complex were the High Court will be housed temporarily. Similarly, close to 3,850 houses are also at an advanced stage of completion. We are yet to take up the construction of Chief Minister’s and Governor’s bungalows,” he observed.

During the review meeting, Naidu is also learnt to have directed the officials to examine the feasibility of designing a convention centre in the capital region on the lines of Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi.“The officials were asked to look into the possibility of establishing a convention centre with international standards such as the Vigyan Bhavan in the national capital where national and international events are hosted,” a senior official explained.
