APCRDA mulls 3D data platform

VIJAYAWADA: Aimed at ensuring meticulous urban planning, development and tracking the progress of the same in Amaravati, the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) is planning to create an integrated 3D data platform for the capital region.

Besides providing a 3D view of the entire city with a visual walk-through facility, the platform will also pave way for creation of a dedicated city dashboard, which will help in real-time administration.
The authority officials observed that administrations of several global cities including New York, London, and Copenhagen are in the process of harnessing data by creating digital platforms for effective and smart city administration. “The idea is to use data-driven innovative technologies for city development, planning, operations and citizen engagement. We are planning to take up the project on a pilot basis in Amaravati as a proof of concept,” an official explained.

Since the entire geotechnical data of the capital city, including the information of all the spatial location, would be available on the platform, the officials said, it would help them simulate models of the proposed project for analysis, making it much easier while executing the projects. Besides, it will also give the authority a flexibility to design as many apps as possible for smart governance. For example, if the authority was to develop mobility or transportation strategies for the capital, it can use the simulation model for it.

The platform will further enable them to track the progress of not just the physical works underway in the capital, but also measure the goals of the city. “The objective of the exercise is to meet its core objectives and vision -- sustainability, liveability and happiness. A digital interface, which will be integrated with all data sources, will help us in efficient administration,” another official added.
