43-year-old man run over by APSRTC bus in Vijayawada

The driver of RTC bus, identified as Kanaka Rao, failed to apply brakes immediately and crushed Venkateswara Rao under its wheels killing him on the spot. Post the accident, he fled from the scene.

VIJAYAWADA: A 43-year-old man was killed after he lost control over his two-wheeler and was run over by an APSRTC bus. The incident took place at Krishna Lanka flyover of Vijayawada on Saturday night.  

The deceased was identified as M Venkateswara Rao from Balaji Nagar. According to Krishna Lanka police, the accident took place around 11 pm when the victim was going home on his scooter. The biker reportedly saw a woman crossing the road and slept trying to avoid hitting her.

The driver of RTC bus, identified as Kanaka Rao, failed to apply brakes immediately and crushed Venkateswara Rao under its wheels killing him on the spot. Post the accident, he fled from the scene.

“A case under Section 174 of CrPC was registered and we have launched a manhunt to nab the absconding bus driver,” Circle Inspector Chandrasekhar said.

Meanwhile, passersby and the deceased’s family alleged the police failed to rush Rao to a hospital on time and he lost his life waiting for the 108 ambulance.

“The ambulance could not reach the spot on time due to traffic congestion on both sides of the flyover,” the CI stated.

In another accident, a lorry driver was killed after his vehicle collided with a road divider near Jaggayapet on early hours of Sunday. The deceased was identified as Alluri Hanumantha Rao.
