VIJAYAWADA: Sleuths of Goods and Service Tax (GST) department raided the office of KMK Event Management Limited in Patamata, Vijayawada on Wednesday morning and served notices to the management for allegedly not paying the tax of around Rs 23 lakh.

The KMK Event Management Limited, owned by the brother of city Mayor Koneru Sridhar, has his wife Rama Devi as its director. Koneru Murali Krishna, brother of Mayor Sridhar, is the proprietor of the company. It is alleged that the company is not paying tax regularly to the GST department and has also committed irregularities in filing Income Tax.

On Wednesday, a team of four GST officials reached the office of KMK Event Management Limited and inspected the records of annual income and expenditure. According to sources, the Tax department officials found irregularities in the income they generated by organising events and expenditure.

“There is a huge difference in the annual income of the present year and previous years. Officials observed the company defaulted the tax amount of Rs 23 lakh and was asked to pay in two weeks,” said the sources.
However, Mayor Koneru Sridar, speaking to TNIE, said the company did not default the tax and claimed that the management will pay the said amount.

“The KMK Company did not cheat the government by evading tax. According to the income received at the time of filing returns, they have paid. The said amount could be the tax for the recent months,” he said.
