Vijayawada Municipal Corporation commissioner urges builders to adhere to Solid Waste Management rules

VIJAYAWADA: Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) commissioner J Nivas has called upon builders and realtors to adhere to Municipal Solid Waste Management-2016 rules and treat the Construction and Demolition (C&D) waste generated in their respective sites in a scientific manner without causing any harm to the environment.

The civic body chief convened a meeting with builders of CREDAI and NAREDCO at VMC council hall on Thursday, in which representatives of Pro Enviro C&D Waste Pvt Ltd gave a powerpoint presentation to the builders over the modalities to be followed in handling the C&D waste. According to VMC official estimates, the city generates around 60 tonnes to 70 tonnes of C&D waste per day in the city.  

Speaking on the occasion, Nivas told builders that representatives of Pro Enviro C&D Waste Pvt Ltd will provide guidance for them in reproducing bricks and concrete in a scientific manner while constructing and demolishing a building. He appealed to the builders to contact toll-free number: 8008182266 for disposal of C&D waste generated during demolition and renovation of buildings under their purview. A nominal fee will be charged by the C&D waste handling company as per the tariff fixed by the State government, he added.
