VIJAYAWADA: Stating that the State government is geo-tagging more than 40 parameters in rural areas for sustainable development, Panchayat Raj and IT Minister Nara Lokesh has said his department is taking steps to transform every village in the State into a model one.

The focus of these model villages will be on infrastructure creation, poverty alleviation, effective governance and economic equality. He said that a software called CM Securities will be launched shortly, adding the data-driven efforts would help in sustainable development of gram panchayats.

Lokesh, who delivered the keynote address at the ‘High-level Consultation on Localisation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at Gram Panchayat Level’ on Tuesday said, “The biggest challenge in our country is lack of visibility of data. The CM Securities also talks about 40 geo-tagged parameters, including roads, water and available banking infrastructure among others.”

He said, “We are using a visualisation software so that it can be used to make efforts from policymakers and stakeholders for sustainable development. We will show it to the world soon,” he said.

Highlighting the need for creating a common platform for Panchayat Raj and Rural Development in the country, he said, “A centre should be set up as a forum for sharing ideas. The centre should be a sandbox for data, technology and regulatory.

If we have such a centre, which I would like our State to have, it will help in bringing on one platform the work being done across various States,” Lokesh said.
