Dew to blame for loss, not bowlers: Dhoni

Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni said it was unfair on the bowling side in the second half of day/night games because of the dew.

“In this part of the year, we may get dew. But we never expected the dew to fall so early. We had hoped for some swing initially and there was not much for them. We saw glimpses of turn when they changed the ball and bowled for three overs until the ball got wet again. I think it was a bit unfair on the bowlers with dew around. But it is part and parcel of the game and nothing can be done,” he said.

The dew factor made the toss crucial, he said. “We know in dewy conditions, the ball swings for the first five overs but after that it comes nicely to the bat,” he added.

However, he said with the third and final match being a day match, there would be no dew factor at Kanpur.

Dhoni said they were hoping Yuvraj Singh would return to form. “We want Yuvraj to do well. He dominates the opposition. In the last few games he has struggled. It happens when you are under pressure. He is someone who dominates and wins matches,” he added.

Kieran Powell said they were fortunate to have won the toss. “The dew was quite heavy and tough on the fielding side. But it is all part of the game,” he said. He further said it was good to have won this match and set it up for Kanpur, which will be played on November 27.
