The final of IPL 7, slated for June 1, has been shifted from the Wankhede Stadium to the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.

The decision was taken at the IPL Governing Council meeting held at the Cricket Centre on Saturday.

The two play-offs, originally scheduled to be played at the M A Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai have also been moved. Qualifier 1, between the top two teams in the points table, has been allotted to Eden Gardens, Kolkata, while the Eliminator, between the third and fourth placed teams, will be played at the Brabourne Stadium here.

The Wankhede will remain as the venue for Qualifier 2, to be played between the winner of the Eliminator and the losing team in Qualifier 1, on May 30.

Explaining the reason for the changes, especially, the involvement of Brabourne Stadium and the Chinnaswamy Stadium, a statement from BCCI secretary Sanjay Patel said:

“Considering that 20 matches of the ongoing Pepsi IPL season were played overseas, the GC took a decision to try and take the play-offs to as many different stadia as possible. Several venues had expressed their interest in hosting the play-offs.”

Reserve days have been provided for Qualifier 1, the Eliminator and the final. There is no such provision for Qualifier 2.
