Yuvi’s form in focus ahead of selection meet

All eyes will be on Yuvraj Singh when the national selectors meet here on Monday to pick the squad for the lone T20 and first three ODIs against Australia.

With the Indian ODI team doing very well of late, there is little room for change and most of those who did duty in the Champions Trophy are likely to retain their places.

Perhaps the only player to make the selectors think will be Yuvraj. The left-hander played the last of his 282 ODIs against England in January and has subsequently seen Dinesh Karthik take his place in the middle-order. But with a string of strong and impressive shows against the West Indies A and in the Challenger Series, Yuvraj has bounced back into reckoning.

He has worked hard on his fitness too and looked in good shape. Of the 15 picked for the Champions Trophy, Irfan Pathan is injured. So the selectors can include Yuvraj in his place or drop Karthik.

If Karthik is dropped, then one more place opens up and Abhishek Nayar might get the nod.  There won’t be major changes in the batting line-up with Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina and Dhoni being automatic selections.
