Girls have all the fun

Girls have all the fun

Though the bubbly Gauthami Nair is only three films old in Mollywood, she has already sealed her place in the industry with riveting performances. Debuting with Second Show, where she played a shy village belle opposite Dulquar Salman, Gauthami had also acted in Diamond Necklace and Chapters. Her role as a naive girl Lakshmy in Diamond Necklace was applauded. Gauthami is currently pursuing her second-year BA psychology from Government Women’s College, Thiruvananthapuram. The actress speaks about her college life.

What has college taught you?

I understood that there are a lot of opportunities to have fun in a women’s college! We have immense freedom and in fact I am chilling out more than I used to do. Another thing I learned from college is to interact with people who are outside my comfort zone. Getting to know people is a different learning experience.

What is your proudest moment in college?

I am a shy person when it comes to being noticed as an actor. So I am deliberately being less active in college. Recently I got selected to the college’s basketball team — it was a proud moment.

Have you had any embarrassing moments in college?

I have had enough of them. Other students will come to my class to talk and click pictures with me. I sometimes feel a bit awkward for all the attention I get because all I want to lead is an ordinary college girl’s life on campus. But my friends thoroughly enjoy these embarrassing moments.

How do you score points with the opposite gender?

I study in a women’s college so there’s no chance for this.

Is bunking a part of your college routine?

Sometimes I bunk classes and watch films with friends. I used to bunk English classes as attendance requirements are lax for English. But, since it is semester system, I need to have attended a set amount of classes. I can’t afford to take too many holidays because I won’t be able to take leave for shooting.

Do you have rifts with professors?

Never. Since my subject is psychology, my teachers are  analytical and understanding. They always support us. Besides, my sister studied in the same department, so the teachers who taught her are cordial to me too.

Where do you hang out in college with friends?

There is a banyan tree in front of our classroom. Since it is very refreshing to sit beneath it, it is my favourite hangout spot.

What extracurricular activities are you involved in?

I am staying away from dance because films are already glitzy and loud. I am focusing on sports.
