The course for the future

KMIT offers a diploma in Data Science along with workforce development, finds Jasmine Jerald
The course for the future

Often, companies invest their time and resources to train freshers to fit the bill. But wouldn’t it be convenient if this training happened at the college-level instead?

That’s what the Center of Excellence (CoE), an initiative by VirtusaPolaris in collaboration with Adobe does for the Data Science students of Keshav Memorial Institute of Technology (KMIT), Hyderabad.

“The demand for data science is growing exponentially and we see a gap between the industry and academia. This is aimed at filling that gap. We want the students to be job-ready by the time they finish the course,” says Neil Gogte, Director of KMIT.

In the past decade, there has been a significant and growing demand for data-savvy professionals. But, the supply is limited. “Data Science is at that place where Computer Science was a couple of decades ago. It’s the next big thing,” explains Neil Gogte.

While not many are aware of this branch of study, the CoE might be the need of the hour to equip students with the skills they need.

“Educational institutes are constantly challenged with the pressure of bringing their curricula and teaching methodologies up to speed with the latest trends in the marketplace.

Adobe is working with institutes like KMIT to train students on our technology and enhance their employability quotient to meet the latest demands of the industry,” says Kulmeet Bawa, Managing Director, South Asia, Adobe. The CoE also provides students with customised workforce development as a data scientist in an organisation suited to their needs.
